Building a Vortex in Edge-Glued Walnut
A twisting base cannot be cut from a single block — no timber comes in that section, and the grain would run the wrong way through most of the form. It is built up from edge-glued walnut, with the laminations oriented so the grain follows the twist rather than crossing it. That is what makes the finished curve continuous in appearance and strong enough to carry a large top.
Clear Resin Over Walnut
The top uses clear epoxy over premium walnut with a natural finish, so the resin stabilizes the natural voids and edges while leaving the grain and color entirely visible.

The table photographed has been sold. Yours is made from scratch — same design, same standard, its own grain. Progress photographs are shared throughout and you approve the finished piece before dispatch.

How is this different from the tulip base version?
Both are round walnut and resin tables. The vortex base twists and reads differently from every angle; the tulip base is symmetrical and calmer. The vortex is the more sculptural of the two.
Which resin color should I choose?
Glossy or matte clear keeps the walnut dominant. Opaque colors turn the resin into a graphic element. Pearl finishes shift with changing light.

- Especially for pnes with clear epoxy, protect from direct sunlight
- Avoid chemical cleaners. Use a slightly damp cloth for regular cleaning. For fingerprints or stains, you can use glass cleaner or vinegar water. If food spills, gently wipe the area. Leave oily spots if they don’t come off easily — the wood will absorb the oil, and it won’t be damaged.
- To preserve the wood’s color, shine, and durability, apply natural wood oils regularly (2-3 years). They nourish and protect the surface.
- Extreme heat and moisture can damage both wood and epoxy. Never place hot items like teapots or pans directly on the surface — always use a heat-resistant mat.
- When moving or assembling large, heavy pieces, take your time and ask for help to avoid damage.
