The Carved Button Detail
The buttons are cut into the surface rather than applied as separate pieces, which is what keeps them reading as part of the figure instead of as decoration stuck onto it. Each one has to be carved to a consistent depth and diameter across a curved surface — straightforward on a flat panel, considerably harder on a form that turns away from the tool — and it is this detail more than the silhouette that gives the figure its character.

Carved from 100% solid hardwood, with no veneer or composite core. Because the timber is natural, the grain pattern is unique to each figure; two pieces of the same height will share a form but never a surface.
Scaling the Figure
A figure like this changes character with size. Under 14 inches it is an object among other objects on a shelf. At 23 to 31 inches it becomes the thing a console table is arranged around. At 39 inches and above it stops being decor and starts behaving like a floor sculpture, needing clear space rather than company. Custom sizes outside the listed range are available on request.

Finished to bring up the natural grain. Dust with a dry cloth and keep the figure away from direct sunlight, radiators and damp — the three things that move solid timber over time.
