Antlers branch, cross over one another and taper to fine points — all of which are difficult in a relief, where every element has to remain connected to the panel behind it. The carving has to create the impression of tines passing in front of and behind each other while everything physically stays attached, which is achieved through carefully graded depth rather than actual separation. It is the single most demanding part of the piece.
