A double door carved from solid walnut into a deep, three-dimensional elephant relief, with individually finished aluminum tusks projecting from the surface. It is designed to work as architecture and as artwork at the same time: a functioning entrance that also carries the visual weight of a commissioned sculpture. The relief runs across both panels as one continuous composition, so the image only resolves fully when the doors are closed.
Solid Walnut, Shaped in Two Stages
The door is built from solid walnut using laminated construction, which is what allows a panel of this size to stay flat and stable rather than cupping across its width over time. Five-axis CNC machining establishes the main relief depths and sculptural contours, and hand carving and detailed sanding then refine the lines, textures and transitions that machining cannot resolve. A natural oil finish completes the surface, chosen because it sinks into the grain and keeps the carved detail legible instead of filling it.
Two Opening Styles
- Sliding double door — the panels alone, for an existing track or pocket installation
- Hinged double door with frame — includes the door frame and the required door hardware

The Aluminum Tusks
The tusks are machined from aluminum, not ivory or any animal material, and are finished to sit correctly against the walnut. Six finishes are offered: polished aluminum, gold, rose gold, black, a walnut-matched finish, and a natural tusk-inspired finish. Aluminum is used because it holds a fine surface at this projection without adding the weight that a solid brass or steel element would impose on the hinges.

The usual sequence is a conversation about the concept, a proposed artwork presented for your approval, then production of the finished door — so nothing is carved before the design is agreed.

Each door is produced individually to order. Estimated production time is 6–8 weeks depending on the design and the extent of customization.
